Sustainability Report
Our commitment to environmental responsibility, social equity, and transparent practices in every aspect of our operations.
Environmental Impact
We measure and report our environmental footprint with transparency. Here's our comprehensive breakdown for 2024-2025.
Carbon Footprint
Total CO2 Equivalent: 12.5 tonnes per year
Breakdown:
- Shipping: 8.2 tonnes (66%)
- Roasting: 2.8 tonnes (22%)
- Packaging: 1.0 tonne (8%)
- Operations: 0.5 tonnes (4%)
Offset Status: 100% offset through verified reforestation projects in coffee-growing regions.
Packaging
Primary Packaging: Compostable bags made from plant-based materials (PLA and paper).
Secondary Packaging: Recycled cardboard boxes with minimal plastic tape.
Waste Reduction: 95% of packaging is recyclable or compostable. We've eliminated single-use plastics from our shipping materials.
Future Goals: Transition to 100% home-compostable packaging by 2026.
Energy Usage
Roastery: 100% renewable energy (solar and wind power).
Energy Efficiency: Our roasters use 30% less energy than industry average through modern, efficient equipment.
Waste Heat Recovery: We capture and reuse waste heat from roasting to heat our facility during winter months.
Social Responsibility
Fair Trade Premiums
In 2024, we paid an average of 22% above Fair Trade minimum prices across all our coffee purchases. This premium directly supports:
- Educational programs in coffee-growing communities
- Healthcare infrastructure improvements
- Sustainable farming equipment and training
- Clean water projects
Community Investment
Beyond fair prices, we invest in long-term partnerships with cooperatives. Our direct relationships ensure that premiums reach the farmers and their communities, not middlemen.
Local Community Involvement
Finnish Community
We source our packaging materials from local Finnish suppliers, supporting regional businesses. Our roastery employs local staff and provides training opportunities in specialty coffee.
Waste Management
All coffee chaff from roasting is composted locally and donated to community gardens. We've established partnerships with local composting facilities to ensure zero waste from our roasting process.
Education Programs
We host monthly cupping sessions and brewing workshops for the local community, sharing knowledge about specialty coffee and sustainable practices. These events are free and open to all.
Future Commitments
2025-2026 Goals
- Carbon Negative: Achieve carbon-negative operations by 2026 through increased offsets and efficiency improvements.
- Packaging: Transition to 100% home-compostable packaging materials.
- Water Conservation: Implement water-saving technologies in partner processing facilities.
- Transparency: Publish quarterly sustainability updates with detailed metrics.
- Community: Expand educational programs to reach 500+ participants annually.
We recognize that sustainability is an ongoing journey, not a destination. We commit to continuous improvement and transparent reporting of our progress.
